The USS Abner Read, DD-526, a Fletcher Class Destroyer
was attacked by a kamikaze pilot in the Leyte Gulf, Philippines
The ship was sunk and 24 hands were killed
- the rest were rescued.

Lost at sea, Alvin Bright is memorialized in
the Tablets of the Missing at the Manila American Cemetery
and with this marker with his family.

This recently unclassified information changes his death date to January 24, 1945
