In order to do the resizing of the photographs, I was using an online program that was like watching paint dry - when it worked. It could have ended this project early on. It was recommended by the coordinator of the project - and I know now, and from other experiences, that he is not to be listened to if you want to keep your sanity.
I found PICASA! I downloaded Picasa 3 http://picasa.google.com/ and now have a cropping and editing and resizing tool on my desktop. It is quick and easy and I am impressed!
