Opal Mearl Nelson of Bend died Thursday of natural causes. She was 93.

An entombment will be held at 1:15 p.m. Saturday at Greenwood Cemetery Mausoleum followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m. at Eastmont Church in Bend.

Mrs. Nelson was born May 18, 1910, in Poplar Bluff, Mo., to Claud and Annie (Lookiebill) Gant. She graduated from Good Samaritan Nuring School in 1932.

She worked as a registered nurse for St. Charles Medical Center for many years. She retired in 1975.
Mrs. Nelson was a founding member of Eastmont Church. She was a volunteer for the Red Cross and a long-time member of the Order of the Easter Star.

She enjoyed playing bridge and spending time with her family and friends.

Survivors include her son, Jim Jensen of Bend; a brother, Claud Gant of Milwaukie; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first, second and third husbands, James Bechill, Grant Jensen and Gordon Nelson, two brothers and a sister. Memorial contributions may be made to Central Oregon Hospice, 2698 NE Courtney Dr., Bend 97701 or the Eastmont Church Building Fund, 62425 Eagle Rd., Bend 97701.

Niswonger, Reynolds Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
