Bernice B. Nelson, of Bend, died Tuesday of natural causes. She was 97.
A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Greenwood Cemetery in Bend. A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. at Eastmont Church. Pastor John Lodwick will officiate.
Mrs. Nelson was born May 23, 1910, in Santa Barbara, Calif., the daughter of Neal and Leah (Rogers) Barnes.
She graduated from Reid School in Bend in 1928. She married Herbert Nelson on Sept. 3, 1928, at Todd Lake.
Mrs. Nelson was a homemaker, and she was an office administrator for the Oregon Department of Forestry for nearly 20 years.
She was a member of the Deschutes County Historical Society and Eastmont Church. She enjoyed picking huckleberries and spending time with friends and family. She moved to Central Oregon in 1925.
Survivors include two sons, Laverne, of Salem, and Kenton, of Prineville; two daughters, Darlene, of Beaverton, and Sheryl Forstrom, of Olympia, Wash.; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, a brother and a sister.
