A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Greenwood Cemetery.
Mr. Bertram was born July 21, 1921, in Hoquiam, Wash., to Leland and Edyth (Smith) Bertram. He graduated from Bend High School in 1941.
He married Mary Thompson on April 13, 1942, in Soda Springs, Idaho.
He served in the Navy as a seaman gunner from 1942 to 1945. He served on seven different ships, in both the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters.
Mr. Bertram was a heavy equipment operator in the logging industry. He retired from the the Gilchrist Timber Company in 1983 and moved to Bend.
He was affiliated with the National Rifle Association, Deschutes County Historical Society and Bend Golden Age Club. He was also a member of Lumber Production Industrial Workers Union.
Mr. Bertram liked to hunt, fish and camp with his family. He enjoyed playing pinochle and visiting Central Oregon's historical sites.
Survivors include his two sons, Jeff of Crescent and Don of Klamath Falls; a daughter, Carol Loomis of Bend; two brothers, James of La Pine and Max of Vancouver, Wash.; a sister, Ethel Woodbury of Wickenburg, Ariz.; eight grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife and a daughter.
Memorial contributions may be made to Bend Golden Age Club or the Deschutes County Historical Society.
