Robert V. Young, of Bend, died Sunday of Alzheimer's disease. He was 81.

A graveside service will be held Monday at 11:30 a.m. at Greenwood Cemetery.

Mr. Young was born Feb. 28, 1926, in Bend, the son of Clyde and Deloma (Agee) Young. He graduated from Bend High School. He married Betty Lou Jones on Aug. 15, 1954, in Powell Butte.

Mr. Young served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He worked for the Deschutes County Sheriff's Department for 27 years, retiring in 1985. He was affiliated with the Elks Lodge, the VFW, the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Lodge, the Deschutes County Historical Society, the Pioneers Club and Powell Butte Christian Church. He enjoyed weightlifting, travel and spending time with family.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Mark, of Bend; a daughter, Karla Harling, of Bend; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister.
