Benjamin Koops of Terrebonne died April 20, 2003 of natural causes. He was 97.
A visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday at Autumn Funerals in Redmond. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Terrebonne Pioneer Cemetery with Pastor Travis Campbell officiating. A reception will follow at the Terrebonne Grange.
Mr. Koops was born Jan. 24, 1906, in Alamosa, Colorado, to Tunis and Ida Mae (Noon) Koops. He married Lola on Dec. 12, 1925, in Colorado.
He moved to Prineville in 1951 and to Terrebonne in 1957. He was a meat cutter. He worked at the Independent Market in Prineville for 11 years. He also worked for the EK Market and Ericksons in Redmond. Mr. Koops later started his own business as a mobile meat cutter.
In the 1970s Mr. Koops started working in the construction industry as a self-employed carpenter. He built the original Patterson Arabian Llamas buildings and fences in Sisters. He continued to work until he was 88.
Mr. Koops enjoyed his mini-farm and trading horses.
His survivors include:
Sons, Ben Jr. of Sisters and Buck of Silver Lake
Daughters, Greta Koops Lang of Fruita, Colorado, Aloha Koops Lawson of Prineville, Leatrice Koops Williams of Bend, Veronica Koops Bothum of Culver and Rosiland Koops Frazier of Redmond
and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, a daughter and two siblings.
