Max "Swede" S. Swanberg, of Redmond, died Tuesday of natural causes. He was 84.
Mr. Swanberg was born Feb. 18, 1923, in Kingsley, Iowa, to Gustof and Ivy Swanberg. He married Betty Thornton on March 5, 1949, in Vancouver, Wash.
Mr. Swanberg served in the U.S. Navy. He worked in the timber industry and in plywood manufacturing. He was a member of the Elks Lodge in Brookings for 49 years. He was a hunter safety trainer and a Boy Scout. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, collecting guns and animals. He moved to Central Oregon in 1988.
His survivors include:
Wife. Betty of Redmond
Son, Robert
Daughters, Linda Sternberg-Smith and Barbara Reagan
Brother, Bob
Sisters, Shirley Jensen and Phyllis Bruning
and six grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Memorial contributions may be made to Ranch Chapel.
Autumn Funerals of Redmond is in charge of arrangements.
