Edgar "Ed" Linwood LanCaster, of Bend, died Wednesday of emphysema and heart complications. He was 84.  Private services will be held.

Mr. LanCaster was born July 13, 1922, in Sko-whegan, Maine, to Lemuel and Margaret (Kirkpatrick) LanCaster. He married Lennith LanCaster on Dec. 18, 1954, in Fort Morgan, Colo.

Mr. LanCaster served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He worked as an oil field superintendent in the U.S., Africa and South America. He also owned a lawn mower business. He retired in 1987.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Roger, of Unity, Maine, and David, of Wasilla, Alaska; two daughters, Dianna, of San Jose, Calif., and Darla Hall, of Anchorage, Alaska; a sister, Natalie Shapiro, of Florida; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four brothers.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Redmond Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
