Donald H. Peterson of Bend, Oregon died March 8, 2009 of natural causes. He was 88.
A memorial service will be held for family and friends at the Cascade Village clubhouse, 63700 Cascade Village Drive, in Bend, Oregon on Thursday, March 12, 2009 at 1pm.
Mr. Peterson was born on May 18, 1920 in Elgin, Illinois to John and Ethyl Peterson. He was raised in Elgin and graduated from Elgin High School in 1938. Mr. Peterson's formal education was as a mechanical and civil design engineer.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1942. He earned his sergeants rating and his appointment to Officer's Candidate School. He received an honorable discharge from the Army due to multiple service- connected disabilities.
Mr. Peterson was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans and the IOOF, Odd Fellows Lodge and Rebekah Lodge. He held memberships in the Moose Lodge of Bend, the Society of Professional Engineers, the Architects and Engineers Society, and the Toastmasters International. He was confirmed and held membership in the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Americas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother and two sisters; two sons, James Lynn and Richard Allen Peterson; and one daughter, Janice Andrea Frazee.
His survivors include:
Wife, Thelma (Nan) Peterson of Bend, Oregon
Sons, Dean Arlen Peterson of Peoria, Arizona and Bryan Donald Peterson of Ventura, California
Grandsons, Greg Stanton Frazee of Tampa, Florida and Christopher Alan Peterson of Carpentaria, California
Granddaughters, Kimberly Denise Egizii and Candace Renee Grossman, both of Springfield, Illinois
11 great-grandchildren
