Former Alaska resident Marilyn J. Ward, 62, died May 12 due to an automobile accident near her home in Terrebonne, Oregon. A Mass of Christian Burial was at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Redmond, with interment at Pioneer Cemetery in Terrebonne.
Mrs. Ward left Dayton, Ohio, in 1968, and moved to Alaska. She worked as a registered nurse and retired in 1981. She married Elmer "Buck" Ward in Fairbanks in November 1970 and they moved to Terrebonne in the early 1980s. Mrs. Ward was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church and American Legion Auxiliary in Oregon. She was involved with the singing group, Bachelor Button Sweet Adelines, and was an active member of TOPS (Taking Off Pounds Sensibly). She swam regularly and enjoyed square dancing.
Her survivors include:
Husband - Elmer "Buck" of Terrebonne
Sons - John Gish of Harrison, Idaho, and Dan Gish of Vancouver, Washington
Stepsons - John of Fairbanks, Doug of Salina, Kansas, and Bobby of Redmond
Stepdaughter - Sandra Hart of Dickinson, Texas
Sister - Rita Kowaski of Dayton
10 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
Memorials may be sent in her name to the St. Thomas Building Fund, P.O. Box 247, Redmond, Oregon 97756. Arrangements were handled by Redmond Memorial Chapel.
