Clayton M. Smith of Redmond died January 1, 2006 of natural causes. He was 82.

A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Terrebonne Pioneer Cemetery.

Mr. Smith was born October 1, 1923, in Wagner, South Dakota, to Joseph and Myrtle (Gibson) Smith. He graduated from Cottage Grove High School. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in both the European and Pacific theaters, and took part in the invasion at Normandy. He married Vona Beach on December 12, 1942, in Vancouver, Washington.

Mr. Smith owned Ulmer and Smith Plumbing Co. in Eugene. He later worked as a plumber in Central Oregon until he retired in 1983. He was a member of the Dayspring Christian Center and served on its board for many years. He started the Redmond chapter of the Full Gospel Businessmen's Fellowship. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and charity work.

His survivors include:

Wife, Vona, of Redmond

Son, Dan of Bend

Daughter, Sharon Williamson of Redmond

Sister, Helen Falk of Springfield

and three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother and three sisters.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

Autumn Funerals of Redmond is in charge of arrangements.
