Raymond Merlin Raaen, of Bend, died Tuesday of natural causes. He was 87.

A memorial service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Grace First Lutheran Church in Bend.

Mr. Raaen was born Nov. 1, 1919, in Lake Park, Minn., to Nilmar and Bertha Raaen. He married Viola Lindstrom on Oct. 20, 1945, in Lake Park.

Mr. Raaen worked as a farmer and a truck and school bus driver. He then worked for and became part owner of Roen Typewriter Exchange in Salem. He retired in 1983 and moved to Central Oregon.

Mr. Raaen was a member of Grace First Lutheran Church. He enjoyed fishing, camping and spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, G. Lee, of Seattle, and Glenn, of Bend; a daughter, Kathryn Thompson, of Bend; a sister, Nyla Lundgren, of Bend; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother.
