Ruth B. Whitney of Bend died Sunday. She was 84.A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Bend. An interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Bend.

Mrs. Whitney was born April 4, 1921, in Sandy, Utah, to David and Eva (Elvin) Borg. She attended two years of college. She married Norman Whitney on June 23, 1941, in Salt Lake City.

Mrs. Whitney worked as a teacher's aid in the Bend public schools. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Bend and the Juniper Golf Club. She volunteered for the voters registration office. She enjoyed sewing, reading, golfing, music, politics and traveling.

Survivors include two sons, Norman of Gardnerville, Nev., and Brad of Portland; three daughters, Janet Pickens of Lacey, Wash., Carol Still of Bend and Judy Thompson of Issaquah, Wash.; two brothers, Robert Borg and Jack Borg, both of Salt Lake City; four sisters, Dorothy Smith of Salt Lake City, Mary Larsen of Punta Gorda, Fla., LaNae Johnson of San Diego and Claudine Granthem of Camino, Calif.; 17 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, a daughter, her parents and two sisters.
