Theodore "Ted" Wood, 86, of Bend died Friday at Aspen Ridge.

A celebration of his life will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church in Bend. The Revs. Bonnie and Jim Parr Philipson will officiate.  Interment of ashes will be at Greenwood Cemetery in July.

Mr. Wood was born to Clara Florence and Leo Miles Wood Sr. on Jan. 1, 1914, in Tacoma, Wash.

He moved to southern California and worked for the phone company. He later served in the Army in Africa during World War II.

Mr. Wood married Flora Ann Ellis on Sept. 6, 1946. She died in 1999.

He was a communications and electrical engineer, retiring in 1982.

Mr. Wood was a member of Bend First United Methodist Church and the Telephone Pioneers.

He enjoyed stamp collecting, ham radio operating and he loved old cars.

Survivors include four daughters, Ann Hand of Bend, Mary Wood of Spokane, Wash., Ruth Bradley of Fort Collins, Colo., and Carol Wood of Keyport, Wash.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.

Memorial contributions in his name may be made to Bend First United Methodist Church.

Deschutes Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
