Margaret Gerhardus Meritt, a professional artist who operated her own art studio in Bend for more than 30 years, died on Monday. She was 90.

Her funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Niswonger, Reynolds and Tabor Funeral Home in Bend. A graveside service will follow at Greenwood Memorial Cemetery.

Mrs. Meritt was born on Jan. 15, 1912, in Clackamas. She was a charter member of the Sagebrushers painting group in Bend, and a room at the Sagebrush Galleries in Bend is named after her. She worked as an artist throughout her career, specializing in oils and watercolors, painting juniper trees as well as desert and mountain scenes. She had been a resident of Bend since 1949.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Cascade Camera Club. She enjoyed gardening, cooking and woodworking.

Mrs. Meritt is survived by a daughter, Diane Abernathy, and a son, Dennis Meritt, both of Bend; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, two sisters and a grandchild.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Bend-La Pine, 1303 Galveston Ave., Bend. Niswonger, Reynolds and Tabor Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
