Mrs. Beery was born May 9, 1916, to Joseph and Daisy (Dayton) Kelley in Gooding, ID. Her family moved to Washugal, WA and she later moved to Portland, OR. She graduated from Jefferson High School in Portland in 1934. Following graduation, Maxine worked on the Priday Ranch north of Madras helping cook meals for the ranch hands. She later worked at an ice cream parlor in Redmond, OR where she met the love or her life, Leo Dale Beery. They were married Sept. 21, 1941 in Redmond.
Mrs. Beery was a homemaker and mother of five sons: Joe, Michael, Larry, Steaven and John. In 1957, the family relocated to Springfield and returned to Bend in 1968. She was active in church work at First Baptist Church of Bend, First Conservative Baptist Church of Springfield (now Twin Rivers Baptist), and Eastmont Baptist Church of Bend. Her talents included teaching Sunday School, leading young girls to Christ through the Kings Daughters program, and working with and cooking for teens in the church. She also sang soprano in the church choir, for weddings, funerals, and on Radio Station KBND in Bend. Above all else, Maxine was a dedicated wife and mother with her family being the primary focus of her life. Everyone was welcome in her home and at her table.
