Wallace Allan VanHise of Bend died Sunday of natural causes at the Central Oregon Health Care Center. He was 86.

A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Niswonger-Reynolds and Tabor Funeral Chapel in Bend with Dean Catlett officiating. Burial will follow the service at Greenwood Cemetery.

Mr. VanHise was born Aug. 18, 1915, in Saint Maries, Idaho, to Harrison and Nellie (Elliott) VanHise. He graduated from the University of Oregon. He married Faye Brown on May 23, 1942, in Santa Monica, Calif.
He taught Social Studies and Math at H.E. Allen School, Cascade Junior High School and Pilot Butte Junior High School. He also was a farmer. He retired in 1976.

Mr. VanHise was a member of the Audobonn Society and Deschutes County Historical Society. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and the outdoors.

Survivors include his daughter, Karen Knudsen of Edina, Minn.; one brother, Harley of Bend; three grandsons; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, a son and sister.
